"Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen." - 1 John 4:20

As a Catholic school, social justice teachings have always been a core component of our mission. In the 2018-2019 school year SJND formed a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee as a way to live out our Catholic values by bringing increased awareness to equity and justice throughout our school culture.

Given that SJND has been ranked the #1 Most Diverse Private High School in the Bay Area by Niche.com for the second year in a row, DEI work is vital to student success and learning.

In the 2020-2021 school year SJND will:

  • Identify and adopt Diversity, Equity and Inclusion norms
  • Form a student advisory committee who will host four Town Hall meetings
  • Engage the National Equity Project and consultant Meg Honey to advise us on developing a curriculum that is representative of our diverse student body, and provide faculty and staff professional development
  • Ensure that SJND admissions and hiring practices reflect SJND’s values of inclusion
  • Continue to provide 60% of our students with much needed tuition assistance

SJND hosted our first student Town Hall Meeting which was moderated by alumni  Austine Delos Santos’14 and Aubrey Williams ‘13. We are thankful for their expertise and willingness to help current Pilots. We look forward to their continued support of our DEI work.
